Deputy PM: Russia has to raise housing construction by 4–5% per year

MOSCOW, Jun 24 (PRIME) -- Russia should raise housing construction by 4–5% per year, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said on Thursday at a meeting where the national housing goals were discussed.

“We should grow by 4–5% per year,” he said, adding that the 2021 goal was to commission more than 85 million square meters of new housing.

Russia will have to attract about 5 million labor migrants to the construction industry until 2024, including migrants from the other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), he said.

“We are now working on these approaches, we are looking into the resources for that and into how we would do it. We have to do it in a way that they provide the maximum impact for development of our country,” he said.

Khusnullin also said that the governors should pay special attention to the cost of housing in their regions.
